LeBron James joins Philadelphia 76ers, confirms final NBA contract

LeBron James has announced that he will join the Philadelphia 76ers next season, describing the move as the final contract of his NBA career.

The 41-year-old leaves the Los Angeles Lakers after an eight-year spell, bringing to an end months of speculation over his future.

The Cleveland Cavaliers, Golden State Warriors, Minnesota Timberwolves and Miami Heat had all been linked with the four-time NBA champion before his decision was confirmed.

In a post on X, James said he believed he could help the 76ers compete for an NBA championship.

"I believe I can help make the Philadelphia 76ers a championship team and I am so excited to energise a new fanbase and start this incredible journey one last time," he wrote.

LeBron's historic legacy grows

James arrives in Philadelphia as one of the most decorated players in basketball history. He is the NBA's all-time leading points scorer, has won four league championships and has claimed the NBA Most Valuable Player award on four occasions. He is also a 22-time NBA All-Star.

The veteran forward has previously enjoyed successful spells with the Cleveland Cavaliers, Miami Heat and Los Angeles Lakers, winning championships with each franchise. He secured two NBA titles with Miami before leading Cleveland to a historic championship in 2016 and adding a fourth title with the Lakers in 2020.

Earlier this week, the Miami Heat accidentally fuelled speculation over a possible reunion after mistakenly publishing a link to an introductory press conference for James. A club spokesperson later told Reuters the post had been uploaded in error while staff prepared for the possibility of his return.

Reflecting on his previous teams, James said: "Miami I'll forever love and Northeast Ohio will always be home."

His move to Philadelphia marks the latest chapter in a career widely regarded as one of the greatest in NBA history.
